Okay, I’m sick of this whole ‘why do we deserve hate’. No one is attacking you personally, darling. But you need to sit down and fucking learn that ‘fandoms’ are super toxic.
I have been apart of several small communities of fandoms and have even stepped into ocean wide onces. And every single one is the same. It will start off fun and embracing, where everyone gets to know each other and actually has in-depth conversations about their interests. You meet great groups of people and casually converse with others.
Then people become elitist. No longer is a fandom about everyone who enjoys said thing, but is instead made of the people who believe they are the hardcore fans of the group. I have seen people get picked on for not agreeing with these elitists. Death threats. Any possible threat you can imagine, it gets sent to someone.
And why is that? Why is a community suddenly a hierarchy? Because you keep fooling yourself into thinking you’re right all the time. People making jokes or trying to include themselves into your fandom is simply unheard of. And anyone not willing to follow the rules is a monster.
I’ve been harassed multiple times as a NSFW writer (WHO NEVER USES MAIN TAGS FOR ANYTHING MIND YOU) just because the fandom ‘should’ be sfw. I don’t always make nsfw works, but it’s what I enjoy doing. And people tell me I’m sick and disgusting for wanting to contribute to that side of the fandom. How dare I think such unholy thoughts when these elitists themselves have dirty thoughts.
When you start policing a group of people, it’s no longer something to enjoy. People drop out of fandoms left and right because they feel attacked. Fandoms are toxic. While the idea is nice, to share with others, you will almost always run into the bad side.
Y’all claim to be sensible. Yet I see almost all of you guys reblogging Doc’s post and claiming that they should die for not agreeing with you. You need to accept that everything in this world is flawed. From your favorite celebrities, to your favorite shows, and even yourself.
If you stay in the little bubble thinking Tumblr is safe or that groups of people are personally there to attack your favorite thing… Grow up. Please. It’s something you need to learn if you hope to function in today’s society. You cannot police anyone and you cannot cry wolf. Accept that the world is not always a happy place, learn to better yourself, create and talk to other people with the same loves, and just remember that at the end of the day: this a fucking website for opinions. People can blog about anything they want and you can choose to fight them over something as silly as a GIF. Chances are they’ll never listen to you and carry on with what they enjoy doing. And so should you.
